- What is a certificate of occupancy?
- The Department of Buildings document that says how a building may legally be used and occupied, including the number of homes. New buildings and major changes of use need one.
- What is a temporary certificate of occupancy?
- A TCO lets people occupy a building before all work is signed off. It expires and has to be renewed until a final certificate is issued.
- Why does an older building have no certificate?
- Buildings finished before 1938 were not required to have one, unless they were later altered in a way that changed their use or occupancy.
