Can ChatGPT or Claude look up property records and owners?
The short answer
On their own, ChatGPT and Claude can search the web, which often gives an out-of-date owner or none at all. Connected to a property data MCP server such as Hercules, they can look up the owner of record, mortgages, sales and foreclosure cases for a real address, across the US and in depth for New York City, and cite what they found.
With and without a connector
| Question | Assistant alone | With Hercules connected |
|---|---|---|
| Who owns 123 Main Street? | A guess from web pages, often stale | The owner of record and any company behind it |
| What mortgages are on it? | Rarely available | Every recorded mortgage with lender, amount and dates |
| Is it in foreclosure? | Only if a news story says so | Open NYC cases with their stage; US foreclosure filings |
| Who is buying in this ZIP code? | No reliable answer | Active investors with their purchases in the last 12 months |
How to connect
- Add Hercules as a connector in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor.
- Sign in to your Hercules account.
- Ask in plain English, for example: who owns this building and what does the owner owe?
- Free lookups run at once; anything that costs credits shows a quote first.
Questions
- Is the MCP connector free?
- Connecting is free, and many lookups, such as the owner of record for a NYC property, cost nothing. Full reports and contacts use the credits on your plan.
- Which assistants work with Hercules?
- Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants that support MCP connectors.
- Can the assistant spend my credits without asking?
- No. Tools that cost credits return a quote first, and the assistant should ask you before it runs them.
