How to search ACRIS for a property owner
ACRIS is the city register's database of recorded documents: deeds, mortgages, satisfactions and liens. Search it by borough, block and lot to see every document recorded against a property, including the latest deed and who took title.

Coverage
ACRIS holds recorded documents for Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens, with images going back decades. Staten Island documents are recorded with the Richmond County Clerk instead.
Steps
- Get the BBL for the address. ACRIS searches by borough, block and lot.
- Search by parcel and sort documents by recorded date.
- Open the most recent deed: the grantee is the owner who took title.
- Check for later mortgages, assignments and satisfactions to see the current financing.
- Note condominium units: each unit has its own lot, separate from the building.
Where ACRIS stops
- It shows what was recorded, not what is still owed on a mortgage.
- An LLC grantee does not tell you who runs the LLC.
- It does not show court cases, violations or the tax roll.
